Student Council

The EPIS School Council is a group of pupils elected by their peers to discuss opinions and ideas with the head teacher and senior management team at the school.  They may take forward projects on behalf of the pupils and contribute to the School Evaluation and Development Plan.

The School Council is attended by one representative from each class across all the year groups. Children are given a topic or area to discuss at the weekly meetings, relating to school life. The question is then taken back to each class and the class rep feeds back all contributions at the next meeting. Topics range from improvements to the playground, playground equipment, behaviour at playtimes, conflict resolution, issues around lunchtime, the running of late class, feedback regarding homework and enjoyment of lessons.

Recently at EPIS a request was made by the children to paint the hallway walls. A consultation was carried out to ask children about the types of pictures they would like to have painted on the wall and our in-house artist used these to create a coherent design which incorporated many of these ideas. The artwork has been enjoyed by all children across the school and has inspired imaginative learning during at school.

The School Council has also requested that some creative classes be held in the assembly hall which has now been made possible throughout the week. The children enjoy having the opportunity to let off steam outside at the end of the day and play together with their friends.

The Council continues to provide a forum where the views of all the children can be voiced and acted upon in a democratic way. This term we seek to further explore the issues raised by the children themselves, as well as by the staff.

This year, The School Council is led by Kuro Krukrubo
